After you send

What happens after you send your number

Four steps, in this order. Nothing is booked, and nothing is paid, until you say yes.

  1. 01

    One contractor rings you

We pass your request to one SEAI-registered contractor who covers your area. Your number doesn't go to a list.

  2. 02

    They measure the windows

Each window and door is counted and measured, and they ask about your BER.

  3. 03

A written quote, grant set against it

A price with VAT and the window U-values stated. The SEAI grant is a fixed amount for your home type, so you see what's left to pay.

  4. 04

    You decide

Nothing is booked until you say yes. If you go ahead, SEAI approves the grant before any work starts.

windowgrants.ie is not SEAI or a government body and does not award grants. We pass your request to one SEAI-registered contractor. You can check any contractor on SEAI's register before you agree to anything.

The figures

  • 2.3The Heat Loss Indicator on your BER advisory report must be this or lower, or roof and walls rated Good.seai.ie
  • 1.4The U-value, in W/m²K, new windows must reach or beat.seai.ie

The catch

The heat loss test comes first

Before SEAI pays for windows, your home has to hold its heat reasonably well already. Your BER advisory report must show Good or Very Good heat loss: an HLI of 2.3 or lower, or roof and walls already rated Good (seai.ie).

If the attic or walls aren't insulated, that may need doing first. SEAI says a previous SEAI attic or wall insulation grant counts towards it (SEAI, 20 Feb 2026). How to check your BER.

Until March 2026, SEAI only funded windows as part of a whole-home upgrade through a One Stop Shop. Since 2 March 2026 you can apply for windows only, doors only, or both. Over 66? Your council's grant can also help: see window grants for over 66s.

Before you agree

What a window grant quote should include

Use this list when the contractor rings. Each line is something you can ask to see in writing.

  • Every window and door listed, with its size and style
  • The U-value of each window: 1.4 W/m²K or better for the grant
  • Removal of the old frames, making good inside and out, and sills
  • Doors priced separately, so the door grant is clear
  • Confirmation the contractor is SEAI-registered
  • A written price with VAT stated

SEAI pays €4,000 for a detached house, €3,000 for a semi-D or end of terrace, €1,800 for a mid-terrace and €1,500 for an apartment, plus €800 per external door for up to two doors (seai.ie, checked 28 October 2026).

Who qualifies?

Homes built and occupied before 2011, with an MPRN, replacing single or older double glazing, with a BER showing Good or Very Good heat loss, and an SEAI-registered contractor.
